Q: Does WinCo accept credit cards as a payment option?
No, Winco does not accept credit cards. The company states on their website that they do not take credit cards due to the transaction rates associated with them. In other words, they choose to keep company costs lower by avoiding the paying fees associated with each swipe or chip insertion of a credit card. This policy helps keep prices lower to benefit customers. However, it certainly drives off a number of customers who wish to pay only with a credit card.
Similarly, Aldi did not take credit cards up until March 2016. Aldi now accepts the major credit cards at all U.S. stores. Aldi was able to broaden its customer base by taking credit cards. However, there certainly has been a significant cost associated with this increased traffic in the form of enormous credit card fees.
