UPDATE 5/13/2021 – Chiptole began rolling out Apple Pay as a payment method at restaurants in 2020. You should see a sign at the register indicating contactless payments are accepted if the location accepts Apple Pay (see an example below). If you do not see a sign, ask the cashier if Apple Pay is accepted. Apple Pay may not be at all Chipotle restaurants yet. Apple Pay has been a payment option through the Chipotle app for some time now.
*Disregard information below. See the current details on Chipotle and Apple Pay above.*
Apple Pay can be used when ordering through the Chipotle app. It cannot, however, be used at Chipotle restaurants at this time. The Twitter response from Chipotle confirms this information:
You can see some of the frustration with Chipotle not accepting Apple Pay at their locations through the below Twitter posts.

Why hasn’t Chipotle rolled out Apple pay in restaurants? The company’s Chief Marketing and Development Officer, Mark Crumpacker, said in 2014, “There are considerable technological constraints to implementing it just based on the way payments are processed with our system.” [source]. We have to speculated that the cost of implementation has something to do with it, along with technical factors.
We do not have word on when or if Chipotle will accept Apple Pay at their locations. Customers will have to use the Chipotle app, for now, to use Apple Pay or use another accepted payment method.
