No, Walmart does not take Google Pay. The company has its own touch-free payment system known as Walmart Pay, which is a feature available on the official Walmart app. You can download it on the Apple App Store or on Google Play depending on the mobile device you use. The below Twitter conservation confirms Walmart uses Walmart Pay instead of allowing Google Pay or other mobile payment methods.

Setting Up Walmart Pay

Once you download the Walmart app, you can add your payment method to Walmart Pay. This can be a credit card, debit card, or Walmart gift card. Note that the gift card balance will always be used first before any credit or debit cards are accessed for payment. However, this can be switch off if desired.

After your payment methods have been added to Walmart Pay, you will need to create a 4-digit PIN or set up Touch ID with your fingerprint.

Using Walmart Pay

You simply scan your items like you normally would at check out. You can either use the self check out or regular check out with a cashier. You then open up the Walmart app and select Walmart Pay when you are ready to pay. A QR code will appear on the register screen which you will scan with the app.

A confirmation chime will sound to indicate the payment was accepted. An e-receipt will then be sent to you on the device. You will not receive a physical copy of the receipt.

It likely is a burden for some people to have to download another app for mobile payment at Walmart instead of being able to just use Google Pay. However, the Walmart app is much more useful than just the Walmart Pay feature. It allows orders to be placed online at walmart.com. It also permits users to place pickup & delivery orders for groceries and other items, among other beneficial features. If you are a regular or even a casual shopper at Walmart, most people won’t find setting up and using Walmart Pay as being a hassle.
