[otw_shortcode_dropcap label=”A: ” size=”large” border_color_class=”otw-no-border-color”][/otw_shortcode_dropcap] When you make purchases online, a common request is for the security code on your credit card. This security code is known as the Card Verification Code (CVC). It is a separate number from your credit card number printed on the front of the card.

The security code on a MasterCard is located on the back of the card. It is a three-digit number located next to the signature line the card. You can see an example of the security code below reflecting the infamous number “666”.

Note that security code for Visa and Discover is in the same location as MasterCard’s number. American Express plays by different rules. Their security code is a four-digit number located on the front right of the card. It is slightly above the end of the credit card number.
