Q: Does Amazon accept Paypal for payment?

Amazon does take PayPal. However, you cannot use PayPal how you commonly would by linking your PayPal account to Amazon for payment. In other words, you cannot directly use PayPal as a payment method on Amazon.

According to PayPal, to use PayPal on Amazon.com you need either a PayPal Cash Card, a PayPal Business Debit Mastercard, or PayPal Key. You will need to request one of these through your PayPal account in order to check out with PayPal on Amazon in the future.

Let’s briefly go through each of these payment options.

PayPal Cash Card

The PayPal Cash Card is a debit card designed for personal use. You can request one free of charge through your PayPal account. It takes approximately 7 to 10 days to arrive. The card can be used everywhere Mastercard is accepted, including on Amazon.com.

The PayPal Cash Card has no monthly or inactivity fees. Other fees do apply with this card such as a $2.50 fee for ATM withdrawals at non-MoneyPass ATMs and 2.5% foreign transaction fees. Be sure to review all the fees and features to make sure this card is right for you before requesting one.

PayPal Business Debit Mastercard

This is a debit card designed for businesses that can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted. Since it is a debit card, you can make withdrawals at the ATM. You can even receive 1% cash back on certain purchases when you apply for this feature.

Some fees apply such as ATM withdrawal fees, teller assisted withdrawal fees, foreign transaction fees, and more. Be sure to review the cardholder agreement for full details before requesting approval for this card from PayPal.

PayPal Key

PayPal Key is a relatively new feature of PayPal. If you are approved for this feature when applying on PayPal.com, you will receive a virtual Mastercard number, expiration date, and security code that can be used for purchases online wherever Mastercard is accepted.

You do not receive a physical card. This means you are limited to online purchases at places like Amazon.com or over the phone purchases. PayPal Key could potentially be used at a physical location if the merchant is willing to verbally accept your virtual card information.

Payment for purchases are funded by the payment method of your choice, such as your PayPal balance, credit card, or bank debit card that has been added to PayPal.

There is no credit check or set up fees associated with PayPal Key. Some fees apply such as foreign transaction fees.
